Hello 50:50 World in Basel: Gender-based violence in the AI and data-driven world

Gender-based violence in the AI and data-driven world

Despite improvements on many fronts of women’s emancipation and gender equality, girls and women are still overwhelmingly affected by techno-facilitated violence compared to their male counterparts. Cyber harassment, impersonation, stalking, have all increased in intensity and scope with the rise of AI technologies. To date, responsibility for protecting women online has tended to fall on women themselves. But we want to ask: what about the responsibility of tech platforms themselves in this global phenomenon? How do leading AI companies address genAI abuse against women and girls?

We are going to talk about that at our March meetup in Basel together with Dr. Marie Poux-Berthe. She is a research assistant involved in the Intimate Tech Terror Project led by Prof. Veronica Barassi at the University of St.Gallen.
